Abraham

Shabbat shalom dear friends πŸ’– may we have a peaceful and meaningful Shabbat πŸ’– May we see The Temple restored now πŸ’–

Each week our parsha is connected to the current events. To take one point only, the story of Abraham saving Lot stir my feelings more than ever. As a background to it we remember that Lot is a nephew, who was a very wealthy man. He learnt a bit from Abraham, yet got confused. So he decided to leave Abraham and acquired a house in Sodom.

This trend is very comforting when we have an advantage of time as well as knowledge of things to come. Who knows what would happen to us if we were in the same situation?

Yet the war breaks in and Lot is taken hostage. This is where the story reads like nowadays headlines – the outsiders refer to Lot as Abraham’s brother (notice that Abraham doesn’t correct them). Furthermore, Abraham actively participates in freeing Lot. He didn’t ask what was Lot doing, what outfit he wore, what music did he play or why wasn’t he studying…. when our brothers and sisters in trouble, we don’t ask questions. We don’t seperate ourselves from the pain. We don’t march with our enemies. We don’t critice them. We fight.

This is the lesson of my beloved Torah.

Shabbat shalom dear friends πŸ’– may the wisdom of our beloved Torah guide us πŸ’– may we see The Temple restored now πŸ’–
